Feature compatability Works with: Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 and Office SharePoint Server 2007
The SharePoint Remove Account Site Security feature of USPM is a simple and easy to use wizard that enables SharePoint Admins or other delegated users to remove an account from a single site or multiple sites across the environment in a single process. With multiple configuration settings that enable you to target exactly how you want users to be removed from SharePoint's Site Security model you'll now be able to completely remove a account across the environment in a snap!

Current SharePoint Challenge(s):
SharePoint 2007 security architecture has become more standardized and provides more consistent capabilities across the platform, however along with this new architecture and security features comes more complex management and reporting tasks. Some of the current challenges around removing user site security are:
  • No holistic user site security view. SharePoint does not provide a holistic view of where a user or group DOES have access across the environment and therefore can be removed. SharePoint's out of the box view is limited to single site collections and does not display entire site hierarchies.
  • Multiple ways a user can have access. There are a multitude of ways a user can be given access within SharePoint and no complete removal tool to ensure removal of all the methods that provided access to a site.
  • Sites Security Interface. Site Security in SharePoint is managed directly from a individual sites interfaces. When removing a user from multiple sites SharePoint administrators have to navigate to each sites interface to make changes and this proves to be very time consuming.
  • Web Application Policies override security. Policies applied to the web application can now override or alter the entire security for a user or group. These policies can still provide a user access even when the user has been removed.
SharePoint Remove Account Site Security : Business Value
The SharePoint Remove Account Site Security Wizard provides a single process that enables SharePoint Administrators and designated users to remove users from multiple SharePoint sites with a whole host of configuration capabilities. This wizard will allow the process of removing users from site security across the environment to be completed in a matter of seconds.

Key Benefits/Capabilities:

Provides a single process interface for removing users/groups.. Easy to use wizard interface that walks the user through removing a user or group from multiple sites.

Visual Hierarchical Site Security View. View all the sites in in a hierarchical format where a user has access. Removal view shows only sites where a user has some type of access and allows selection based on security inheritance. Visually see where you can remove the users/groups.

Remove from SharePoint Groups or Direct Permissions. Wizard settings allow a user to determine if they want to add the selected users/groups will be removed from SharePoint Groups and/or Direct permissions on the selected sites.

Active Directory Group Reports. USPM will provide a Active Directory Groups report that will display any Active Directory groups that provided access to any of the sites selected for user removal. USPM does not directly modify Active Directory but this report will allow users to easily send the information to their internal support team who is responsible for Active Directory group memberships.

Web Application Policy Reports. USPM will provide a Web Application Policy report that will display any Web Application Policies that provided access to any of the sites selected for user removal. USPM does not directly modify Web Application Policies but this report will allow users to easily send the information to their SharePoint Farm administration team who is responsible for Web Application Policies.

Feature Delegation. The USPM framework allows individual features to be delegated out to specific users. This capability will enable SharePoint Administration teams to determine who is allowed to execute and leverage the power of USPM.

Auditing Capabilities. Each USPM feature that makes changes to SharePoint's settings, using the SharePoint API, creates an audit trail allowing the determination of who executed the USPM feature and what changes were made.

...and much much more!   These are just some of the overall key benefits of the SharePoint Remove Account Site Security.
